International Alcohol Brand Awareness Research

Assess alcohol brand recognition, product understanding and perceptions among adult trade audiences in the UK and selected international markets.

The commission

What the work covers

Research how an alcohol brand is recognised and understood by agreed adult trade audiences in the UK and selected international markets. Use voluntary business surveys or interviews to examine recognition, knowledge of product origins and production traditions, and perceptions of the brand's proposition. Agree the countries, participant groups, questions and research method before contact.

Use published or appropriately licensed category information to put responses in context. Research may involve retail buyers, hospitality operators, importers, distributors or other defined trade groups. Compare results across markets only where the sample and method support the comparison, distinguishing reported perceptions from independently established facts.

Support reciprocal cultural understanding by exploring how UK brands are understood abroad and international brands are understood in the UK. Findings can inform clearer, factual trade communications that explain provenance respectfully and recognise people who choose not to drink. Report the evidence and open questions without promising a change in awareness or commercial performance.

How we approach the work

  1. Agree the brand, UK and international markets, adult trade sample and questions, with privacy information, lawful processing and contact arrangements established before recruitment.
  2. Conduct the agreed voluntary surveys or interviews and review relevant published or licensed category context.
  3. Analyse aggregate responses, qualify comparisons and conclusions, and present findings with sample and method limitations.

Scope and boundaries

Participation is voluntary and separate from promotional outreach or permission for later marketing. The applicable lawful basis, privacy information, retention, reporting and any overseas-transfer safeguards are agreed before collection. Findings reflect the agreed sample and method and do not guarantee wider awareness, sales or reputational outcomes. Work is subject to local laws. Overseas lobbying, campaigns to influence non-UK public decisions and representation to non-UK public authorities are excluded, directly, remotely and through third parties. UK lobbying requires a separate mandate, direct delivery in the UK and applicable registration and disclosure checks.

Scope and independence

Lobbying and representation before public authorities are delivered directly by Alcohol Ltd within the UK and only in relation to UK public bodies. We do not undertake or arrange lobbying of foreign governments, legislatures, regulators or international public bodies, directly, remotely or through intermediaries.

International work covers research, commercial analysis, media, publishing and private-sector trade event support. It excludes campaigns to influence non-UK public decisions, representation to non-UK public authorities and arranging others to provide those services.

Commercial research uses sources and documents whose disclosure and use are permitted for the project. Personal data needs an appropriate lawful basis, privacy information and any applicable overseas-transfer safeguards. Investment recommendations, investment transaction arrangements, financial audits and compliance certification are outside this research service.

Client approval concerns commissioned deliverables and factual checks. Editors retain responsibility for independent publication, corrections and removal decisions. A commercial commission does not buy favourable independent coverage, the suppression of legitimate reporting, editorial endorsement or control over our policy positions. Confidential journalistic sources are not made available through commercial client approval.

Our regulated editorial material follows the Editors' Code of Practice, including accuracy, distinguishing fact from opinion and conjecture, privacy and timely corrections with due prominence. IPSO regulates editorial material within its remit; it does not approve our consultancy, research, PR or lobbying services. Advertising is clearly identified where applicable.

Appointments require an agreed written brief and checks on the client, conflicts, sanctions and any applicable registration, disclosure, data-use and permission requirements before work begins. Scope, fees and responsibilities are agreed separately, subject to our service and jurisdictional terms.
